It's The Loop ("we," "us," or "our") operates the It's The Loop mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the App.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- First and last name
- Email address
- Display name (username)
- Password (stored in encrypted form)
1.2 Profile Information
You may optionally provide additional profile details, including:
- Phone number
- Street address, city, state, and zip code
- Default search distance preference
1.3 Item and Marketplace Data
When you post or interact with items on the App, we collect:
- Item name, description, category, size, and condition
- Photos you upload of items
- Claim requests and their status
1.4 Messaging Data
When you use the in-app messaging feature, we collect:
- Message content between users
- Timestamps of messages sent and read
- Conversation metadata
1.5 Location Data
With your permission, we collect:
- Your device's GPS coordinates to display nearby items
- Pickup addresses and coordinates for item exchanges
- Saved favorite places for scheduling appointments
You can disable location permissions at any time through your device settings. Some features, such as exploring nearby items, will not be available without location access.
1.6 Appointment and Scheduling Data
When you schedule item pickups, we collect:
- Appointment date, time, and location
- Confirmation status from both parties
1.7 Device and Technical Data
We automatically collect:
- Push notification tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging) to deliver notifications to your device
- Basic device information required for app functionality
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Enable you to post items and browse items posted by others
- Facilitate messaging between users regarding items
- Show you items near your location
- Schedule and manage item pickup appointments
- Send you push notifications about messages, claim requests, and appointment updates
- Improve and maintain the App
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
3.1 With Other Users
- Your display name and first name are visible to other users when you post items or send messages.
- Pickup addresses are shared with the other party in an approved claim for the purpose of coordinating item exchange.
3.2 With Service Providers
We use the following third-party services to operate the App:
- Supabase — for authentication, database hosting, and data storage. Supabase's privacy policy is available at https://supabase.com/privacy.
- Firebase (Google) — for push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging. Google's privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
3.3 As Required by Law
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Your data is stored on secure servers managed by Supabase.
- Passwords are encrypted and never stored in plain text.
- Photos are stored in a secure cloud storage bucket.
- We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, but no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
Messages, item postings, and related data are retained for the duration of your account.
6. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access and Update: You can view and update your profile information through the App at any time.
- Location Permissions: You can enable or disable location access through your device settings.
- Push Notifications: You can disable push notifications through your device settings.
- Account Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the email address below.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App and updating the "Last Updated" date above. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
